Always default to the instructions and use the disc that came with the printer. If you've lost your printer's manual, try doing a Google search for the name and model of your printer (which you can find by looking at your printer) plus the word "manual" (e.g., "HP Deskjet 3050 manual"). Steps to install Printer Driver on Windows 7:
Choosing the driver software
Click on the ‘Start’ menu and open the ‘Control panel‘. Then select the printer option from the window. Identify the printer device installed on the system. Also check whether the driver is preinstalled on the system from the system option in the ‘Control panel’. If any software is installed, the user only needs to update the existing one. Else install driver software by downloading the same from the printer manufacturer’s website.

Steps to do the installation
Install the printer driver by double clicking on the downloaded file. Agree to the license terms of the driver software manufacturer and click ‘Next’. Select a location for the file and press ‘Next’ button. Click on the ‘Install’ button while the page appears. The installation takes some processes for the installing of the associated components like the printer spoolers etc. Click ‘Finish’ button after the process.

Points to keep in mind while installing printer drivers
The user should take care while installing a printer on the Windows 7 Operating System. The compatibility of the driver software with the Operating system and the device should be noted. Download the software only from the printer manufacturer’s website by mentioning the Operating System used. Update the software while needed. The Windows 7 Operating System enables the user with an option to add the drivers and updates for the software automatically. The user only needs to enable the option from the ‘Control panel’.
